Practical Project Planning badge

What makes a good project plan?

Participants will gain a high-level overview of the techniques used to build and manage a robust and credible project schedule.

They will understand how to bring together a group of individuals with different skillsets to create a single, coherent plan as well as techniques for estimating, challenging and working together to keep the plan on track.

In the second half of the session, we’ll ask why project communications are often an afterthought? A lot of the tools are already there!

Participants will learn how to effectively communicate about their projects. They will learn how to use the plan, reports, summaries, diagrams, and other tools to communicate.

During this half day in-person session we’ll cover the following modules:

The best laid plans: building your project schedule

  • Identifying tasks and the right level of detail
  • Assigning and scheduling tasks (visual representations)
  • Dependent tasks and the critical path
  • Building the plan

Talk to the plan: effective project communications

  • Types of project communication
  • Who are you communicating with?
  • Different communication tools – and what they’re good for
  • Using the plan
  • Talking about your project

I know what you’re thinking, “I’m planning to put this in my diary straight away!” Am I right?!

On the day

This is great, but what’ll I do for the other half of the day?
It’s a very good question, I’m glad you’ve asked.

Did you know we also do half-day courses in risk management, writing business cases and effective project sponsorship? We can do the half day course on its own, or we can smoosh the two together and create a full day of learning – now that’s good project planning if ever I saw it!
