As project manager, you should have a really clear idea of the project vision. The project vision represents the destination that the project is headed for and so it becomes vital when you are making decisions.

I like to compare it to a road trip. If you’re on a journey to Edinburgh and you come to a crossroads and have to make a decision about which turn to take, you take the turning that you believe will best get you to Edinburgh. You might still take the wrong turn – it happens sometimes – but having an idea of the destination enabled you to make a decision.

If you’re a passenger in the car and you don’t know the destination, you won’t be able to help much at the crossroads. Make sure your team are clear on the vision too – they’ll then be better able to help you along the way.
