The Super Star three-day course turns project teams into project delivery Super Stars. We cover multiple different aspects of project management, from technical skills, through working with your organisation, to the soft skills needed for really effective project management.
Over the course of three days we’ll step through twelve different sessions, each exploring a different element of project management. The first two days cover the same content as the Shining Star course. Day three then goes on to cover:
All things change – managing issues and change
One thing is for certain in project life: THINGS CHANGE. So we need to have the tools to adapt to that change and manage issues and challenges as they arise. Above all, we’ll consider how to remain calm in the face of a gathering storm! We’ll look at:
- Change under control vs. controlling change
- Setting your baselines
- Assessing a change
- Dealing with issues
How much?! Managing project costs
Like much of project management, good cost management is a life skill. With that in mind we delve into how to manage a project budget (though the principles can be applied to any budget) In this session we explore how to build a budget and we’ll gain an overview of how to estimate costs, accounting for risk and contingency as well as managing the budget day-to-day. We’ll look at:
- Anatomy of a cost plan
- Building your budget
- Contingency and risk
- Managing and forecasting
Spinning plates: how to manage multiple projects
Ever feel like you’ve got more on than you bargained for? At this point in the course we start to lift our heads up from individual projects and look at some of the techniques of portfolio management. We’ll explore how to balance the portfolio to ensure that the right projects are getting done at the right time and that they can be correctly resourced. We’ll also look at portfolio-level reporting to support brilliant decision making. We’ll cover:
- Creating portfolios
- Resourcing the portfolio
- Managing the portfolio
- Portfolio-level reporting
- Your personal project portfolio
Bringing it all together: a project management workshop
Rounding off an incredible three days, we bring everything we’ve learnt together in a workshop. We’ll examine a project (either a case study, or one of your own live projects) from multiple angles and apply the skills we’ve learnt in a really practical and hands-on way. All expertly facilitated by an experienced project manager.
All this in three days?! Surely, we can’t be serious?

On the day
Each day typically runs from 09.30 to 16.30 and will incorporate a one-hour lunch break and a twenty-minute break between each of the morning and afternoon sessions. Refreshments are not included but may be provided by the client if desired.
