What makes a good project plan? Participants will gain a high-level overview of the techniques used to build and manage a robust and credible project schedule. They will understand how to bring together a group of individuals with different skillsets to create a single, coherent plan as well as techniques for estimating, challenging and working together to keep the plan on track.
Divided into two sessions, the first half looks at project planning principles to help the team pull together a superb project plan. The second half looks at project communication priniciples and explores how we talk about the plan and update people via project reporting.
Session 1: The best laid plans
In the first session we’ll build a plan from scratch and work out how you go from a blank page to a project plan. We’ll understand dependencies and technique for building in contingency to make for a solid, reliable plan. We’ll look at:
- Identifying tasks and the right level of detail
- Assigning and scheduling tasks (visual representations)
- Dependent tasks and the critical path
- Building the plan
Session 2: Talk to the plan
Why are project communications often an afterthought? A lot of the tools are already there! Participants will learn how to effectively communicate about their projects. They will learn how to use the plan, reports, summaries, diagrams and other tools to communicate. We’ll cover:
- Types of project communication
- Who are you communicating with?
- Different communication tools – and what they’re good for
- Using the plan
- Talking about your project
Sounds incredible, right?
